A call for participation in the second international academic conference “Parliamentary Readings”

The Agency for Legislative Initiatives, the Law Students Research Association “Scholaris”, the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Social Technologies of Kyiv Mohyla Academy National University jointly conduct the Second International Academic Conference “Parliamentary Readings” dedicated to parliamentary studies. A call for participation in the Conference that will take place on 7-8 October 2010 in Kyiv was announced on 14 March 2011.

The initiative aims at achieving a new level of expert and academic discourse in Ukraine and to encourage young scholars and academics to examine such issues of modern parliamentarism as representative and legislative functions of the parliament, its oversight powers, internal structure and organisation, public participation in legislative process etc.  The Conference provides the ground for scholars from all over Ukraine, dealing with parliamentary studies, to exchange opinions among themselves and their European peers, as well as with political and civil society experts, which will be invited to participate in the discussions.

The Conference envisages an informative discussion and publication of their research papers on the results of the Conference, while the most substantial research works will be published in the core scientific magazines and Parliament Journal, an information and analytic publication of the Agency for Legislative Initiatives (circulated in 1000 copies). Five prizes in the amount of 1000 UAH (with the support of the Legal Company “Vashchenko, Bugay and partners” ) will also be awarded to honour the best research papers.

The organisers invite young researchers from Ukraine and other European countries (e.g. lecturers, post-graduate students, and graduate students in the final years of studies) to participate in the Conference and send their completed application forms and research papers to parliam.readings@laboratory.kiev.ua before 18 July 2011 (included).

Requirements to research papers and selection of participants:

  • the research subject should deal with the Conference topic;
  • the text should be done in Microsoft Word for Windows;
  • the text should not exceed 20,000 characters with spaces;
  • margins: upper, lower, right-side –15mm, left-side – 20mm;
  • font – Times New Roman, type-size – 14; interval – 1.5;
  • the electronic file title should include the author’s surname in English transliteration;
  • working languages: Ukrainian, English, and Russian.

The papers will be selected by a commission composed of representatives of the Agency for Legislative Initiatives, Law Students Research Association “Scholaris”, lecturers of the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Social Technologies of Kyiv Mohyla Academy National University. Information on the selection results will be sent out not later than 5 September 2011. More detailed information on the Conference programme and venue will be provided after the selection of the research papers is completed.

Participation Conditions

Registration fee is 200 UAH. No travel and accommodation expenses will be reimbursed. The organisers, however, will provide accommodation assistance.
